1.    Appologies received from Councillor J.J.Sykes

2.     The Minutes of the previous Meeting  4th July  having been  circulated, were approved and signed by the Chairman.

3. Matters Arising
 i.  Eleanor Cross. The Clerk introduced Peter Pace, our architect, to the Chairman, who welcomed him, and Councillors other than Councillors Southwick and Robson who had, together with Councillor Sykes and Sir Tatton, already met him earlier at the Eleanor Cross, and Councillor Lady Swinton who had given him tea afterwards. Peter explained that after a thorough investigation using a cherry picker from the cross at the top to the foot, thanks to Temple Moore being such a professional architect, instead of the usual iron rod running up through the Monument, which would after 100 years have led to considerable damage, a copper one had been used, so the Monument was still in a good state of repair. There was evidence of considerable more paint and guilding both on the figures and the inscriptions. The apparent cracking to the base steps requires further investigation. He would submit estimates for a range of remedial and decorative work. There was evidence of at least a partial lightning conductor. On balance the Council were in favour of a new lightning conductor being installed. The Chairman thanked peter for his attendance, and he left. The Clerk reported War memorial Trust had confirmed a 75% grant towards the cost of work required, so there was ample funding to provide for repair work in excess of £15,000. Councillor Robson was still awaiting confirmation from Nat West bank of the appointment of new trustees for the Honesty Box Fund.
